Medical Gas Systems New Construction Verification Procedure:
The following is an outline of our medical gas pipeline certification procedure and
the instrumentation used to perform those tests.
1. Acquire and verify documentation
(mil sheets) of, and visually inspect pipeline to verify use of cleaned and capped copper tubing, cleaned and bagged
fittings, correct brazing alloy (BcvP), NF nitrogen, and labeling of pipeline
2. Verify installer credentials
in accordance with NFPA 99-C, Chapter 4 3. Perform the following tests as required: a.
Cross connection test b. Valve test
c. Flow test d. Alarm test
e. Piping purge test (particular matter) using .45 micron filter @ 3.5 SCFM flow
f. Piping purity test, using Miran 203 infrared spectrometer check for:
> Total hydrocarbons as methane
> halogenated hydrocarbons g. Verify dew point using Hydrodynamics model 8092 pressure
dew point monitor h. Final tie-in test and flow i. Operational
pressure/flow test using a five inch, calibrated, 100 psi gauge and Dwyer Instuments 1000 Ipm flowmeter
j. Oxygen concentration test using MAX O2 oxygen analyzer k. Nitrous oxide concentration
testing using Bacharach Model 54-9105 infrared medical gas analyzer l. medical air purity tests: > Carbon monoxide in
ppm > Carbon dioxide
in ppm > Gaseous
hydrocarbons in ppm >
Halogenated hydrocarbons in ppm
> Dew point using Hydrodynamics model 8092 pressure dew point monitor m. Verify operation
of medical gas outlets and related fixtures.
Provide field test reports signed by all parties. If systems
successfully pass inspection, a final report is vertified and distributed.

Annual Med Gas Inspection Procedure
Our
annual medical gas system inspection program is intended to ascertain if your facility's medical gas systems comply
with applicable NFPA recommendations. We inspect and test all components of the medical gas systems, from source to final
usage points.
Sources:
Oxygen:
Inspect and evaluate oxygen supply source. If source is non-hospital owned, supplier representative shall be
present to assist in operational verification procedure of system and alarm points.
Other
Compressed Med Gases (Nitrogen, Nitrous Oxide, etc): Inspect and evaluate manifold and
control system. Operation verification of bank to bank change over, alarm, pressure switch settings, and function.
Medical Air Compressor: Inspect and evaluate air compressor.dryer package and
intake location, alarms, pressure switch settings, and functions.
Medical Vacuum Pump:
Inspect and evaluate pump package, discharge location, alarms, pressure switch settings and functions.
Medical
Gas Distribution System:
Pipeline: Verify content
and flow direction labeling.
Zone Valves: Inspect and evaluate zone
valves for leakage; verify labeling and controlled areas.
Alarms: Verify
location and function of alarm pressure switches; operational verification of master and area alarms.
Patient Use Points (outlets/terminals):
Inspect and evaluate outlets,
hose reels, ceiling columns, nitrogen control panels, rail systems, etc. for: a. Odor (sniff
test) b. Cross connection tests c. Gas concentration (purity)
test, using Ceramatex o2 analyzer for oxygen and medical air, and Buchanan 54-9105 nitrous oxide analyzer for nitrous oxide d. Operational pressure test e. Operational flow test
f. Piping purge test (particulate matter), using .45 micron filter @ 3.5 SCFM flow g.
Operational verification of outlets/terminals (latching, leaks, etc.) h. Medical air shall be
tested in selected locations for: 1. Dewpoint, using newport 8092 Dewpoint
Monitor 2. Carbon Monoxide in ppm
3. Carbon Dioxide in ppm 4. Gaseous Hydrocarbons in ppm 5. Halogenated hydrocarbons in ppm, using Miran 203 Infrared Spectrometer.
A confidential detailed report will be compiled and forwarded to hospital administration and engineering. Maintenance
with any deficiencies noted. Corrective procedures will be provided upon request.
